Le Gymnase Clemens-August est le premier gymnase public de la ville de Cloppenburg. L'école est fréquentée par environ 1370 élèves.
L'école a été construite dans un style néoclassique et a été inaugurée le 24 avril 1914 en tant que « Gros-Ducal d'Oldenbourg Realprogymnasium ». Dans les premières années à partir de 1914, seules les classes 5 à 10 étaient enseignées. À partir de 1920, elle a été développée en un gymnase régulier, et en 1923, les premiers diplômes de bac ont été délivrés.
