From 1990 to 2010, the Lüneburg Natural History Museum was located in the historic city centre of Lüneburg on the edge of the subsidence area. The focus of the exhibitions was on the native habitats of forest, heathland, moorland, floodplains and city as well as regional geology.
The Natural History Museum was sponsored by the Natural Science Association for the Principality of Lüneburg von 1851 e.V. The museum has been closed since 31 December 2010. Since 1 March 2015, part of the exhibition has been presented at the Museum Lüneburg with a new concept, together with objects from the former Museum for the Principality of Lüneburg and the City Archaeology of Lüneburg.
