Nature Reserve Petkumer dijk - a very special natural area is the 200 hectares of Petkumer dijk by the Ems estuary and the salt marshes, creeks, river flats, and brackish water reeds, which provide a very special habitat for plants and animals in the eternal, impressive interaction between land and water. Between March and July, the dike is a native el dorado for our birds. In the salt marshes, black-tailed godwits, lapwings, redshanks, oystercatchers, and avocets breed in high density. From late summer to spring, Scandinavian geese belong to the skies above Petkum. Every evening, the geese return to their roosting places along Petkumer dijk. An impressive experience. From June to September, it is allowed to use the bicycle path outside the dikes (Teekabfuhrweg). However, the dike is accessible all year round. Along the dike, as well as the centrally idyllic located Petkumer harbor with its "Utkiek" information.
