The parish church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Monschau in North Rhine-Westphalia was built between 1649 and 1650 by the Premonstratensian Fathers of the former monastery of Reichenstein as the first parish church in the municipality. It was a no-frills hall building made of rough quarry stone masonry.
In the 17th and 18th centuries, the church also benefited from the economic prosperity of the Monschau cloth industry. She acquired furniture from various churches such as the Reichenstein Monastery and the Trappist Monastery of Mariawald. The silver-gilded sanctuary with the relic of St. Liberatus, the patron saint of the city, was made in 1769 by Anton Reuter. The church is considered the most beautiful peasant Baroque building in the northern Eifel.
