The Ilse Valley is a wild and romantic valley southwest of Ilsenburg. The Ilse rises near the peak of the Brocken at almost 1000 meters and flows through a bizarre rocky landscape to the north.
The way the road along the small mountain river is one of the most scenic and varied hiking trails of the Harz Mountains. It is named after the famous poet Heinrich Heine, who once walked along the Ilse from Mount Brocken to Ilsenburg.
