Schweimker Moor and Lüderbruch

The wetland Schweimker Moor and Lüderbruch was placed under nature protection in 1989. The initially approximately 834-hectare large nature reserve in Lower Saxony is located between Lüder in the northeast and Schweimke in the southwest and bears the statistical designation “NSG BR 53”. A large part of the area is also designated as an EU bird protection area V33. Additionally, a section of around five hectares of the FFH area “Ise with tributaries” was located within the nature reserve. This was detached from the nature reserve on December 24, 2020, and newly designated as the nature reserve “Oberer Gosebach”. This resulted in a reduction of the area of the nature reserve “Schweimker Moor und Lüderbruch” by about five hectares. The responsible lower nature conservation authorities are the districts of Uelzen and Gifhorn.

In addition to the raised and low moor areas, there are large areas of alder and birch swamp forests in this region. The small-scale alternation of moor heath, reed grass stands, moor forests, and grasslands characterizes part of the raised bog complex.
