The Ochtum barrage near Lemwerder is located at the confluence of the Ochtum and the Weser. It serves to protect the lowlands behind the barrage and thus in particular to protect parts of Bremen, where the only fatalities in the Lower Weser region were recorded during the storm surge in February 1962, Delmenhorst and Stuhr. The barrage was built on the basis of a state treaty between the federal states of Lower Saxony and Bremen.
