The Freudenburg is the ruin of a spur castle on a western mountain spur of the Eider Mountain at the end of Burgstraße and Balduinstraße within the community of Freudenburg in the district of Trier-Saarburg in Rhineland-Palatinate.
The castle complex stands at the tip of a rock ledge that tapers in a bug-like shape at an elevation of 440 m above sea level, which is separated from the village by an artificially created castle moat. This constitutes the only access to the castle. The layout, forming an isosceles triangle, presents an impressive view with the outer walls standing in three floors above the rock edge.
