Schwarzenraben Castle is a baroque moated castle near Lippstadt-Bökenförde. It was built by the Barons of Hoerde between 1748 and 1765 according to plans by Johann Matthias Kitz. Remaining work lasted until 1777.
The settlement of "Wambeke" was first mentioned in a document in 1031, when the Paderborn Bishop Meinwerk confirmed that he had donated part of his hereditary estates, to which Wambeke belonged, to the Abdinghof monastery there. The name means something like "settlement near the stream that carries little water". Towards the end of the Middle Ages, Wambeke had developed into an isolated manor house through clever economic policy and had been expanded into a lowland castle. The property was divided into two and in the 15th century it was given to the Boleke and Vrydach families as a fief.
