The Paderborn-Nord repair shop has been in existence since 1913 and is now the headquarters of Deutsche Bahn's central sales department for freight wagons.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the cities of Paderborn, Lippstadt and Soest applied for the location of a new repair shop of the Prussian-Hessian State Railway. In anticipation of the jobs created and an increase in rail traffic, all three cities were prepared to provide the railway with the necessary land free of charge.
As an advance payment, the city of Paderborn took out a loan in 1907 to buy 19 hectares of land and build the necessary infrastructure. This – and not least the influence of the ministerial director Hermann Kirchhoff, who came from Paderborn – led to the government in Berlin committing itself to Paderborn as a location in 1910.
Finally, on 10 July 1913, the Royal Main Wagon Workshop for Freight Wagons of KED Kassel was opened at Paderborn Nord station with a workforce of around 550 men.
