The Bergkeller portal in the Neustadt is a listed building in Detmold in the district of Lippe .
Until the early 19th century, it was customary in Lippe to consume beer immediately after brewing, there were no possibilities for long-term storage. In order to ensure sufficient cooling during the fermentation process, deep ice cellars and tunnels were dug in which ice could be stored all year round.
