The Bertha Order was established on May 30, 1910, by Prince Leopold IV. of Lippe as a women's merit order.
The order's insignia is a silver light purple enameled cross pattée, with the lower arm of the cross being slightly longer. On this, the year 1910 can be read. In the red-enamel medallion of the cross, which is surrounded by a laurel wreath, are the entwined initials L B, overshadowed by the princely crown. On the reverse side of the medallion, which is also surrounded by a laurel wreath, is the inscription WOMEN'S MERIT.
