The upper cemetery chapel is one of two chapels at the forest cemetery in Düsseldorf-Gerresheim and was built between 1963 and 1965 according to the plans of the architects Hans Junghanns and Gerhard Nitschke for the city of Düsseldorf.
The sacred space is designed in a circular floor plan as a truncated cone. The chapel roof is covered with copper; the ceiling and the wall ring are inclined inward; daylight only enters through a narrow clerestory band. The round structure rises above the low entrance hall and service rooms, which are encompassed by a wide overhanging roof slab.
