The Hunstein nature reserve with an area of 11.76 ha is located south of Calle in the urban area of Meschede. The area was designated in 1994 by the district council of the Hochsauerland district with the Meschede landscape plan as a nature reserve with an area of 7.3 ha. When the Meschede landscape plan was redrawn, the NSG was then designated again and considerably enlarged.
