The Bethlehem Health Center, established in 1863 by Roland Ritzefeld in the former copper factory Steinfeld, is a hospital providing basic and standard care and is an academic teaching hospital of RWTH Aachen with around 1,000 employees. It has 327 beds for approximately 14,500 inpatients and 35,000 outpatients annually and is divided into seven departments: Surgery, Orthopedics and Traumatology, Obstetrics, Internal Medicine, Anesthesiology including Pain Therapy and Surgical Intensive Care, Pediatrics with a Children's Intensive Care Unit, and an ENT staffing department. The Radiology Clinic has been operated as a radiological practice of the company med 360° since 2021. Since the closure of the maternity ward at the neighboring Eschweiler hospital in favor of Stolberg in 2016, it has become the most childbirth-intensive hospital in the Aachen city region; more than 1,300 children are born here each year.
