During the National Socialist era, Ravensbrück was home to the concentration camp of the same name. In 1959, the Ravensbrück Memorial was opened at the former storage site.
Ravensbrück is part of the historic landscape of Uckermark and has been part of the Brandenburg territories since the Peace of Wittstock in 1442. Ravensbrück is located in the Neustrelitz Small Lake District of the Mecklenburg Lake District.
