The "F. F. Runge" gymnasium in Oranienburg is a public school run by the district of Oberhavel. It is the oldest high school in the area and covers grades 7 through 12. The motto of the school is "Tradition – Scientific Diversity – Tolerance". The main building is now classified as a historical monument.
In 2002, the Aktion Courage association awarded the Runge-Gymnasium the title of School without Racism – School with Courage. The school's sponsorship was taken over by the director of the Jewish Museum in Berlin and honorary citizen of Oranienburg, W. Michael Blumenthal. In 2004, the school successfully graduated from a competition by the publishing house UNICUM and was named School of the Year 2004. To support the high school, the Association of Friends of the F. F. Runge-Gymnasium Oranienburg e.V. was founded in 1992 as a tutoring association.
