The company was founded in August 1997 by the business graduate Martina Klink and the ship's master Carsten Klink. The first units were two push boats of the Finow class, which were put into service as Mister Ed and Miss Ed. The fleet was then continuously expanded, and the ships were given names that start with the letters Ed.
In 1999, the Ed Line Service Center GmbH was founded on the premises of Yachtbau Berlin GmbH, which carries out all repair work on the Ed–Line–ships and offers a Europe-wide repair service. A year later, the company's headquarters was relocated from Gubener Straße to Wendenschloßstraße.
