The biomass power plant Sellessen is a heating power plant that was commissioned in 2006, built as part of the resettlement of the village of Haidemühl.
Construction began in May 2005, the first firing of the boiler took place on November 19, 2005, and the first grid connection was already on December 6, 2005. The official commissioning took place on April 13, 2006, in the presence of the Environment Minister Sigmar Gabriel. The old village of Haidemühl had to make way for the advancing Welzow-Süd open-pit mine. From the properties made available for resettlement, the residents of Haidemühl predominantly chose the current site at Sellessen in Spremberg. Haidemühl is now a district of the town of Spremberg.
