Water castle Tauchritz

The water castle Tauchritz is a manor house in the district of Tauchritz in Görlitz. It is located on the northern edge of the village near Berzdorfer See.
The former knight's estate was first documented in 1306. It belonged to Lord Nikol von Neuershove, a land judge in Görlitz. The castle was built on oak piles in the swampy terrain and was partially surrounded by moats to prevent the drying out of the piles. From 1349 to 1422, it was owned by the nobility of the Bieberstein family from Friedland. In 1422, it was bought by the von Gersdorf family. In 1611, Georg von Warnsdorf purchased the castle and domain of Tauchritz for 25,000 thalers. In 1683, a fire destroyed the castle and eleven other buildings. The current baroque castle was built by Maria Sidonia von Warnsdorf in 1686/1687 on the foundations of the old castle. Until 1749, it was owned by the von Warnsdorf family and was then sold to the Joachimstein monastery. After 1945, it was expropriated and became public property. It served, among other things, as a school. Since 1987, it has been vacant. After a sale, the building is set to undergo restoration.
