Halbendorf/Spree is a municipality located in the district of Bautzen, Saxony, Germany since 2013. The village is located in the lowlands of Upper Lusatia - in the middle of the landscape of heaths and ponds of Upper Lusatia - and is part of the Sorb settlement area.
Halbendorf is located about 20 kilometers northeast of the large city of Bautzen, in the middle of the landscape of heaths and ponds of Upper Lusatia. The village lies on both sides of the Spree, with present-day Halbendorf to the west and the formerly independent village of Geißlitz to the east. The village, which has now developed, is surrounded on all sides by dense forests. To the north is the neighboring village of Neudorf/Spree and to the south is Lömischau, while the forests to the east stretch for seven kilometers to Förstgen in the district of Görlitz. Above and below Halbendorf, the lakes of dead meanders still remind us of the original winding course of the Spree. Some of them have been restored since 2018.
