The Zanthier Square is one of the first stations on the Heinrich-Heine trail from Ilsenburg to the Brocken. A memorial in honor of Forester Hans Dietrich von Zanthier stands in a clearing. This was one of the founders of modern forest management and opened the first forestry school in Germany around the year 1764 in Ilsenburg.
There is also a small refuge on the Zanthierplaats. If you have to take a break here, it is better not to start the trail to the top of the Brocken.
