The Alpine Museum is a branch of the Bavarian National Museum and is located in the Marstall in Kempten. The focus of the museum is the history of the Alps, the history of alpinism, as well as the environment and nature. The collection and concept were established and developed in collaboration with the German Alpine Club. The ongoing costs are covered by the cultural department of the city of Kempten. The exhibition area of the four upper floors totals 2,200 square meters. The Alpine Museum was opened on August 1, 1991. After the Alpine Gallery was closed in 2015, the Alpine Museum now has two additional rooms available on the ground floor.
