The L-Bank is the state development institute of the state of Baden-Württemberg and a German credit institution in the legal form of a public-law institution based in Karlsruhe with a branch in Stuttgart.
Legal foundations regarding the bank are the Law on the L-Bank of November 11, 1998, of the state of Baden-Württemberg and the statutes issued by the state government. The state of Baden-Württemberg is the guarantor and bears the institutional burden. The bodies of the bank are the executive board as the managing body and the supervisory board as the oversight body.
