The Rauhe Ebrach is a 47.3 km long western and left tributary of the Regnitz in northern Bavaria, in the Lower Franconian districts of Schweinfurt and Haßberge, and then the Upper Franconian district of Bamberg.
It flows out of the Wustvieler Forest through an exclave of the municipality of Michelau in the Steigerwald and then in a southeast to east direction through the municipality of Rauhenebrach as well as through the municipality of Schönbrunn in the Steigerwald, where it also touches the unincorporated area of Lindach, through the market town of Burgebrach and the municipalities of Frensdorf and Pettstadt, where it finally reaches the Regnitz.
