The Reichenbach Bridge is an arch bridge over the Isar in Munich and connects the Isarvorstadt on the left bank of the Isar with Au on the right bank of the Isar. The bridge, as well as the Reichenbachstraße leading north from it, are named after the Bavarian inventor and engineer Georg Friedrich von Reichenbach.
In 1832, a wooden bridge with 15 spans was built at the site of the present Reichenbach Bridge by the then city architect Karl Muffat to connect the suburb of Au with Munich. After one span collapsed in 1840, a new structure designed by Muffat and the architect Friedrich von Gärtner was built in 1842/43, which withstood all subsequent floods, astonishingly even the flood of the century in September 1899, which claimed the iron Bogenhauser Bridge and the Luitpold Bridge.
