Odenwald quartz is mined in quarries near the village of Reichenbach im Odenwald on the Bergstraße in the Odenwald. The historically best-known mining site on the Borstein hill has been partly protected since mining ceased. The Reichenbach quartz factory and two other companies continue to mine at other locations. These are located in Borstein, Hohenstein and Katzenstein. In total, there are five main veins of this very colourful rock in Germany, which is traded as natural stone.
