The Helgoland rock flat with its associated "underwater world" belongs to the nature reserve Helgoland rock base and is the only habitat of its kind in Germany. It is located west and north of Helgoland. It dries out at low tide. The average tidal range here is 2.30 meters. The rock flat has formed over centuries through gradual erosion of the cliff of the rocky island.
