La zona intermareal de Helgoland, junto con su "mundo submarino" asociado, forma parte del área protegida del zócalo rocoso de Helgoland y es el único hábitat de su tipo en Alemania. Se encuentra al oeste y al norte de Helgoland. Se queda seco en la marea baja. La amplitud de marea promedio aquí es de 2,30 metros. La zona intermareal se ha formado a lo largo de los siglos debido a la erosión gradual del acantilado de la isla rocosa.
