The Stadtbrücke Pirna is a 295.45 m long Elbe bridge in Pirna built in 1875. The stone arch bridge serves as a combined road and railway bridge, carrying the state road 164 as well as the Kamenz–Pirna railway line, and connects the centrally located western suburb of Pirna with the northern district of Copitz at Elbe kilometer 34.34. To distinguish it from the Sachsenbrücke completed in 1999, the bridge has been named "Stadtbrücke" by the city of Pirna.
In Pirna, the Elbe was crossed at a ford in the Middle Ages. The city's first attempt to build a permanent structure, a wooden bridge across the Elbe, is documented for the year 1563. It failed due to financing issues. The next plans for a chain bridge were from 1828 and also did not materialize because of the high costs. It was only the construction of a connecting line between the Elbtalbahn and the Görlitz–Dresden railway line that enabled the desired Elbe bridge to be built. The structure, a combined double-track railway and two-lane road overpass, was constructed as a sandstone arch bridge based on designs by the Dresden water construction inspector Hofmann. The groundbreaking took place on December 4, 1872, the keystone was laid on November 24, 1874, and the inauguration of the approximately 2.15 million Mark project followed on October 2, 1875.
