Tudderen is a village that forms the main place of the German municipality of Selfkant in the district of Heinsberg in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Tudderen is one of the westernmost villages in Germany, after the neighboring villages of Isenbruch and Millen. It lies right on the border with the Netherlands, less than a kilometer from the built-up area of Sittard. From 1949 to 1963, Tudderen, along with the rest of Selfkant, belonged to the Netherlands as 'Drostambt Tudderen'. The ties with Sittard go much further back. Selfkant, along with Sittard, Susteren, and Born, belonged for centuries to the Duchy of Guelders. This region was the administrative hinterland of Sittard until 1815.
