The Elta is a small river in the Baar region of the Tuttlingen district that flows for about 16 kilometers and empties into the Danube from the left in Tuttlingen, approximately to the southeast.
The Elta springs from around 780 m above sea level in a forested area between Trossingen, Spaichingen, and Gunningen in the Baar, on the eastern slope of the highest peak of Bildstöckle of Lombergs at 816.2 m above sea level, next to the K 5913 leading to Spaichingen. It initially flows northeastward, leaving the forest into the Heusteig open field and there it takes in its first tributary from the north slope of the Bildstöckle from the left. Then, after about a kilometer and two underpasses of the county road, it turns into a long south-southeast to southeast course and transitions from the municipal district of Spaichingen to that of the municipality of Gunningen.
