The Aachen Weather Station is one of twelve climate reference stations of the German Weather Service and has been based in Aachen-Orsbach, Schiefdell 11, since 2011. Its beginnings date back to the 19th century and in 1895 it gave rise to the Aachen Meteorological Observatory, which was established five years later on the Wingertsberg in the Stadtgarten Aachen and moved to Hamburg in 1977. After the relocation of the observatory, operations in Aachen were resumed as a normal weather station and radioactivity measuring station and upgraded to a climate reference station in 2011.
