The gangue veins of the mine belong to a copper ore vein line that stretched from above Langenaubach through Donsbach and Nanzenbach to Hirzenhain. The mines on this vein system were:
The Alte Hoffnung mine worked on two ore veins. On the later vein, the Altenhoffnung vein, which strikes in the seventh hour and dips to the north, and the quartzitic Lembach vein, which reached a thickness of up to 3″, struck in the 11th hour and dipped to the east.
On the first vein, 110 ladders were reportedly driven in 1867, and on the last, about 90 ladders were driven. The Lembach vein was known over a length of 300 ladders and was worked to 50 ladders on the upper level.
