In 1945, the castle of the "Toller Bomberg", an extravagant baron known in Westphalia in the 19th century, was initially housed as a student dormitory of the University of Münster, later Prof. Konrad Lorenz, famous for his research with greylag geese, headed a branch of the Max Planck Society here.
In 1958, the school board member Edmund Ballhaus set up a boarding school for boys and girls there, combined with a secondary school and later with a secondary school.
In 1968, the grammar school received state recognition. In 1971, an additional "basic grammar school" was established. The two grammar schools developed excellently.
