Stolzenhain Village Church

The Protestant village church of Stolzenhain is a listed church building in the Stolzenhain district of the municipality of Röderland in the Elbe-Elster district of South Brandenburg. The church is located surrounded by the local cemetery in a central position in the village center.

The Stolzenhain church was built in 1592. It was part of the parish established in 1575 in Saathain, where at that time there was a castle chapel near the Saathain manor, which was replaced by a half-timbered church in 1629. Over time, the church in Stolzenhain became the mother church of the parish, which is why the clergy of the parish, if they died here, were buried in the churchyard in Stolzenhain. Another daughter church of the parish was located in Prösen, which also belonged to the Saathain manor area and provided pastoral care to the village of Reppis located near Gröditz. In 1602, a plague cemetery was established near Stolzenhain because victims of the plague from the neighboring village of Schweinfurth, which was also part of the Saathain parish, were denied burial in the cemetery at the Stolzenhain church in the village center. In 1768, the first school building of Stolzenhain was built opposite the churchyard.
