The Fürstenberg Lock is located at kilometer 60.70 of the Upper Havel Waterway in Fürstenberg/Havel in the Oberhavel district. It is located in the connection between the Röblinsee and the Baalensee to the east of the Bundesstraße 96 road bridge.
During an investigation conducted in 2004, considerable structural defects were discovered throughout the interlocking system. In 2009, the contract for the construction of a new building was awarded, which was carried out between September 2009 and June 2010. The construction costs amounted to around 7 million euros and were covered by the Federal Administration for Waterways and Navigation.
