Hildfeld is a district of Winterberg in the Hochsauerlandkreis district, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The village with an area of about 491 hectares has a little more than 480 inhabitants.
The first component of the place name is said to be derived from the Old High German "Hille-a". The "field on the mountainside" thus also refers exactly to the geographical location of the village: The summit of the Clemensberg, the third highest mountain in North Rhine-Westphalia at about 837 m above sea level, lies in Hildfeld territory; the village is located on its slope. On the northeast flank of the Clemensberg in the Neuer Hagen nature reserve rises the Hoppeckequelle. The Rhine-Weser watershed runs through Hildfeld. While the water of the Hillebach, which passes the village to the south, reaches the Rhine through the Ruhr, the Hoppecke flows into the Diemel and thus reaches the Weser.
