Lechtingen is a village and a former municipality in the district of Osnabrück, in Lower Saxony, Germany. With 4,583 inhabitants, Lechtingen is the second smallest district of the municipality.
The village borders on the surrounding districts of Rulle, Wallenhorst and Hollage and to the south on the districts of Pye and Haste in the city of Osnabrück. Part of the Piesberg, at times the largest quarry in Europe, is located in Lechtingen. On the Lechtingen side of the Piesberg there is an arboretum with a 33-metre-high sequoia. Another important attraction is the restored Lechtingen windmill, where several open-air events take place every year. The Lechtingen windmill is considered the place where the idea for the Lower Saxony Mill Day was born, which later became the German Mill Day, which is celebrated every year on Whit Monday.
