Dänikhorst is a district of the municipality of Bad Zwischenahn in the Lower Saxony district of Ammerland. Northwest of the village lies the Dänikhorster Moor, which has been under nature protection since 1987.
The name Dänikhorst can be derived from the old German words Tannicht meaning forest and Horst as an elevated secure place. Dänikhorst had a castle until around 1509. The Oldenburg document book identifies Gerhardus Sleppergrelle as the owner of this castle in 1305. Around 1509, the Schlepegrell family sold the castle to the Oldenburg Count Johann the Elder. He allowed the castle to fall into ruin.
