The village was first mentioned in a document in 1249. The provost of St. Mauritz in Münster confirmed the jurisdiction of the parish of Amelsbüren for the Hospital of St. John in Venne. In 1255, the chapel of St. Johannis zu Venne was mentioned in a document of the magistrate of the city of Münster. In the same year, the houses between the house and Venne were transferred to Venne for baptism and burial. In 1290, Vein is explicitly referred to as "parochia".
