When Queen Christina of Sweden in October 1655 arrived at Königstein, the town was part of the archbishopric Mainz. During her journey through the dominions of archbishop Johann Philipp von Schönborn, from Königstein in the north-west till Aub in the south-east, he took care for her well-being. But the prelate and the queen didn't meet each other, because she traveled 'incognito'. In Königstein Christina even denied a welcome at the archbishop's castle by his governor. Today the ruins of the enormous castle on the hill can be visited. Tip: leave you car at the Parkplatz Stadtmitte at the Hauptstraße, and visit the castle and the old town on foot.
