The Protestant Church of Niederwenigern is located at Justinenweg 2, not far from Burgaltendorfer Straße in the Niederwenigern district of Hattingen.
The Protestant parish has existed since the late 16th century, but it was a diaspora community. Since it was denied the joint use of the Roman Catholic St. Mauritius Church from 1672, the services initially took place in an extension of the rectory. In 1751, a church was built that looked more like a barn and had no bells. After an increase due to mining and industrialization, the districts of Hinsbeck and Byfang were separated in 1875. Nevertheless, it was decided to build a larger church in Niederwenigern. The construction costs of 30,660 marks were financed equally by loans and donations.
