The listed building is located in the district of Rheda, opposite the Catholic parish church of St. Clemens. Since 1872 it has been owned by the Princely House of Bentheim-Tecklenburg.
In 1829/1830, the princely chamber councillor Clemens August Rötteken had the palace named after him built. Rötteken was an influential administrative lawyer in Prussia's time, who contributed to the Cologne-Minden railway running through Rheda in Berlin. As a result, important companies in the meat and furniture industry settled here, bringing an economic upswing to the former, always rural stately residence.
