A specially created Steverarm
A picturesque sight is the very well-preserved historic Borgmühle, located between the town hall and the market square. It was built on a Stever arm that was specially created in the Middle Ages. As part of a comprehensive redesign, a stone staircase was built on its banks in 2013, where you can now sit and enjoy the atmosphere. Splashing water fountains and some croaking ducks add to the atmosphere, and with a bit of luck you may even see a heron or a kingfisher.
The Borg mill probably did not always have its place in this idyllic place. In the past, it is said to have stood elsewhere in Lüdinghausen, but unfortunately there is no one left today who could name it exactly. Mühlenstraße, located in the eastern part of the city centre, and a parcel called "Mühlenhöfchen" only give a few clues to the former location.
First come...
Even if it has not always had its place here, the Borgmühle has a few years under its belt. It was built in 1406 by Ludolf von Lüdinghausen. A grain mill was of great importance to the city's residents at that time, as it supplied them with flour products that could be used in many ways, if not to be essential for life. It is not for nothing that the saying "First come, first served!", which comes from the legal principle of the Sachsenspiegel, gained great notoriety throughout the country.
With the exciting city tour "Through the 3-castle town of Lüdinghausen", you can perfectly arrange a visit to the Borgmühle. Today, there is a pizzeria in the building, which invites you to stop for a bite to eat in its cozy beer garden due to its beautiful location and old-fashioned flair. In the evening, the restaurant "sCheer's Amadeus", located directly on the jetty of the Borgmühle, offers you the opportunity to end the day with cold drinks. In the evening atmosphere, after a long day, you can take a last look at the magnificent mill and the half-timbered house with the large mill wheel.
