The nature reserve (NSG) Recker Moor covers an area of 344 hectares and is a remnant of the formerly 5000-hectare Vinter Moor. The peat body itself is still 150 hectares in size and is surrounded by a buffer zone of wet meadows.
Extensive re-wetting measures have created the conditions for the development of typical highmoor conditions. The living conditions for animals and plants that are adapted to this habitat are continually improved through further measures. These include the removal of woody plants and the optimization of previously used grassland areas.
To make the area accessible for nature enthusiasts, a second observation tower, information boards, a parking lot, and a hiking trail over a peat dam have been built.
