The origins of the public park in Altenessen date back to 1897. It was inaugurated on the 100th birthday of Emperor Wilhelm I and named after him.
The Kaiser Wilhelm Park has changed throughout its development due to multiple expansions, additional features, destruction during World War II, and the influences of the respective zeitgeist. However, the character of a public park has been preserved.
Its appearance is characterized by wide grassy areas and a magnificent tree population. Embedded within are many play facilities that attract numerous visitors on sunny days.
