Description by the author

The regional hiking trail between Blankenfelde and Baruth remains follows the motto: “Jans nah draußen”. Along this course, hikers explore the area between the Teltow and Baruth glacial valley. The diverse, landscape carved out by glaciers is easy to read as you are under way. Melted water from the Weichsel ice age formed the glacial valley. The glittering beauty of the Märkisch sands stretches northward from the former windswept dunes to the outwash plains and terminal moraines covered by fragrant pines. The flora and fauna developed in the current warm period. Snipe, cranes and even sea eagles circle high above. Otters and kingfishers are also at home in the hiking region, where ditches, lakes and streams together with alder and ash forests offer ideal conditions. The protected species also include bats, grass snakes and the great capricorn beetle.

Length: 48 kilometres (one to two days)

Start/Finish: Bahnhof Blankenfelde train station / Baruth/Mark

Logo: Red bar in a white background

How to get there: Take the S2 train from Berlin Friedrichstrasse to Blankenfelde (S) Blankenfelde-Mahlow; take the U22 underground from Berlin central station to Brandenburger Tor and from there the S2 train to Blankenfelde (S) Blankenfelde-Mahlow; take the RE5 from Berlin central station to Blankenfelde (TF) or the RE7 from Berlin City to Blankenfelde (TF)

Return journey: Take the RE5 from Baruth/Mark to Berlin central station (lower)

Course: The hiking route runs along the RE5 regional train line (RE7 also goes to Wünsdorf Waldstadt) and can be reached from eight train stations, making it easy to hike partial sections too. Train stations along the Baruth Line: Blankenfelde, Rangsdorf, Dabendorf, Zossen, Waldstadt, Neuhof and Baruth/Mark (RE 5)

Sights: Restaurants serving delicious food can be found in all five municipalities. Lovely holiday apartments and small hotels give you the opportunity to head off on the next stage the next day. Churches worth seeing, from Classical to Romanesque, pretty town centres and exhibitions at galleries and museums provide cultural impetus.

Conditions of the trail/surface: The Baruth Line mainly runs over field and forest paths. Brief sections are asphalted or flagstoned.
