Description by the author

The Kleine Techniktour (“short technology tour”) mostly covers the Oder-Neiße Cycle Path and brings together activity, nature and technology. In Groß Gastrose, the tour leads to Mühleninsel (“Windmill Island”) and the old grain mill. The village is situated on a tench in the River Neiße, backed up a long time ago by a weir in order to run a mill. The imposing buildings have been maintained, though the mill is no longer in operation. Grießen’s hydroelectric power plant opened in 1929, but was closed and dismantled in 1976. Restored by its private owner in 1992 and equipped with a new turbine, the plant is now back in operation. The tower is open on weekends in the summer, providing a magnificent view of the river landscape. The village of Grießen is home to the historic fortified church, a field stone construction and the oldest church in the Guben region. From the viewpoint in Grießen – at the exit from the village towards Forst (Lausitz) – it’s possible to watch the action at the Jänschwalde surface-mining facility. Follow the Oder-Neiße Cycle Path back to Albertinenaue, passing by Taubendorf and Kerkwitz, until the Guben town district of Kaltenborn. The original heart of the village has been maintained and is under monument protection. The Sprucker Mühle is a former grain mill situated in the town district of Altsprucke by the Schwarzer Fließ waterway. The milling technology and the protected building have been preserved. Today it houses the local history museum. Once you arrive back at your starting point, you can round off your tour with a visit to the Stadt- und Industriemuseum in the town centre. Here visitors can learn about the history and the industry of this town on the River Neiße with lots of multimedia.
