Description

The beaver, once threatened with extinction, has long since become native to the Drömling again. The Bibertour is named after the shy rodent. The chance to encounter him on the nearly 30-kilometer medium-difficulty tour is high. The route leads through the rugged Drömling landscape with its ditches & meadows and its typical animal & plant life. Where else can you find the marsh marigold or the water lily? Where else can you encounter the Eurasian curlew or crane and heron? Where else can you watch the mute swan quietly gliding over the water from a distance or listen to its song? The church towers of romantic villages greet from afar as they always have, where time seems to have stood still. This is where the cradle of the Reformation in the Altmark was. This is the home of Bartholomaeus Rieseberg, one of the most fervent advocates of Luthers teachings... The Bibertour - this is Drömling for beginners. A tour for cyclists looking for peace and untouched nature.

Route description

Miesterhorst is one of the municipalities on the Bibertour. Behind the houses, we see a storks nest on a lattice mast and can also see the typical old Altmark style of farm plots and residential houses. At the train station, we use the tunnel to pass under the ICE track. After passing under the federal road, we come across a forest path towards Kahnstieg, the so-called Schnabelweg. Here, in 1998, some wild pear trees, then Tree of the Year, were planted. The stunted growth of these trees shows the poor sandy soils we are now on. The path is partly paved, partly unpaved. The houses of Kahnstieg are widely spaced along the road from Buchhorst to Dannefeld. Following the road to the right, we reach the Friedrichskanal after about 100 meters. To the left, we follow the Friedrichskanal to the three locks.
